Ashtanga, Rocket and Dharma Yoga promote a consistent practice and these classes are the heart of Yoga Commons. Our complementary offerings in Yin Yoga, speciality skills, pranayama, meditation, and sound healing are designed to promote a complete practice for your physical and spiritual well-being.

Most of our classes are available both in studio and via livestream to make the practice more accessible.

ASHTANGA YOGA

Developed by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in the 20th century, Ashtanga Yoga is a highly structured practice rooted in an ancient system of yoga. It consists of a progressive series of postures linked by breath and movement (vinyasa), designed to build strength, flexibility, and mental discipline. We offer the following Ashtanga Yoga classes:

In this traditional approach to Ashtanga Yoga, you will be assisted through a self-led class with direct one-on-one teaching where you work at your own pace and progress through a set series, one posture at a time. This type of practice is a perfect place to build your practice from the ground up or deepen the experience. This class is for all levels, including those new to yoga, as you will get direct support and hands-on assistance from the teacher. For more information on Mysore Style, click here!

MYSORE STYLE PRACTICE

LED PRIMARY

Led class is an important complement to a regular self-practice for a solid understanding of the Ashtanga practice, including breath, drishti, and proper vinyasa count. Students will be guided through Primary Series , which emphasizes targets the hips and hamstrings and building strength. This is a mixed levels class, however prior experience with Ashtanga Yoga is encouraged. Instruction is minimal, with traditional Sanskrit counting and emphasis on the traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa method. Modifications may be provided for an accessible practice.

ROCKET YOGA

Created by Larry Schultz in the 1980s, Rocket Yoga is a playful and energetic adaptation of Ashtanga Yoga, designed to make the traditional sequences more accessible while still maintaining their transformative power. It encourages creative modifications, arm balances, and inversions, making it an uplifting and empowering practice. We offer the following Rocket Yoga classes:

Our Rocket Yoga classes put the practitioner in control while still honoring the core values and teachings of the Ashtanga lineage, encouraging creativity and freedom. This is a mixed levels, asana-focused class that invites you to challenge yourself through exploration and play, while staying accessible through modifications to honor the body’s present abilities. Each class will be slightly different and may focus on any one of the three Rocket Yoga series.

ROCKET YOGA

DHARMA YOGA

Founded by Sri Dharma Mittra, Dharma Yoga is a devotional practice rooted in classical Hatha-Raja Yoga, integrating asana, pranayama, meditation, and yogic philosophy. Consisting of five progressive sequences of postures, Dharma Yoga emphasizes compassion, humility, and self-realization, guiding practitioners toward physical vitality and spiritual awakening. We offer the following Dharma Yoga classes:

Dharma Yoga is a complete traditional yoga practice where postures are approached as a moving meditation, a way to experience your own interconnectedness of mind, body, and heart, to develop concentration and contentment and gain strength and flexibility. This is a mixed levels class for anyone looking to move and be moved. Expect a complete practice with asana, pranayama, deep relaxation, and meditation with an emphasis on developing compassion. Each class will vary slightly and may be based on the Dharma I, II, or III sequences.

DHARMA YOGA

YIN YOGA

Rooted in Taoist philosophy and Traditional Chinese Medicine, Yin Yoga is a slow, meditative practice that targets the deep connective tissues, joints, and energy channels of the body. Postures are held for several minutes with relaxed muscles, promoting flexibility, circulation, and inner stillness. This practice encourages mindfulness, patience, and surrender, balancing the more dynamic aspects of yoga and life. We offer the following Yin Yoga classes:

Yin Yoga brings balance to the constant stimulation of everyday life. In this mindful and stilling class, you will learn to cultivates a deep sense of awareness through the release of mind and body stresses by holding fewer poses for longer periods of time, often with the support of props. This class is suitable for anyone looking to balance a more energetic practice, increase flexibility, keep joints healthy and mobile, improve posture, reduce stress, or enhance body awareness.

YIN YOGA

Unwind and restore in this unique class that combines the deep stillness of Yin Yoga with the healing techniques of myofascial release. MyoYin targets the body's connective tissues and fascia, releasing tension, improving mobility, and fostering a sense of balance. Each session incorporates Yin postures paired with self-massage techniques using tools like therapy balls to enhance flexibility, reduces stiffness, and support the body's natural healing processes. This class offers a nourishing practice for all levels.

MYOYIN

SPECIALTY CLASSES

We offer highly specialized classes to help you learn specific skills and techniques to enrich your yoga practice. These unique offerings are taught in small groups to ensure each student receives customized instruction to safely support their practice. We offer the following speciality classes:

Create a sustainable backbends practice by learning the fundamentals for improved mobility, strength, and flexibility as well as techniques to regulate the nervous system. In this class you will deepen your understanding of the mechanics of backbends through a step by step approach to practice them safely and consistently, while respecting your body’s present abilities. Expect a short warm up, drills and a complete breakdown of poses with hands-on assists and individualized feedback. Open to all levels.

BACKBENDS

Learn the fundamentals of flexibility for improved strength, stability, and overall range of motion. In this class you will deepen your understanding of specific movements or postures through a step by step approach to practice them safely and consistently, while respecting your body’s present abilities. Expect a short warm up, a series of drills , as and a complete breakdown of poses covered with hands-on assists and individualized feedback. The focus of each class will vary, but exercises may target hip, hamstring, shoulder, or spinal flexibility. Open to all levels.

FLEXIBILITY

Learn to control your entry into forearm stand, perfect your alignment, explore shapes, and have fun in this all levels class. In this class you will be guided through a functional warm up, conditioning for strength and active flexibility, and drills. Each class will have a different focus depending on student needs, but may include a variety of entries, shapes or transitions. Uncover your potential in forearm stand in a safe, fun, and effective manner. This class is open to all levels but some yoga experience is recommended.

FOREARM STANDS

Learn to control your entry into handstand, perfect your alignment, create balance and have fun in this all levels class. In this class you will be guided through a functional warm up, conditioning for strength and active flexibility, and drills. Each class will have a different focus depending on student needs, but may include different entries, shapes or transitions. Uncover your potential in handstands in a safe, fun, and effective manner. This class is open to all levels but some yoga experience is recommended.

HANDSTANDS

BEYOND ASANA

Our complementary offerings in the subtler yogic practices, including pranayama, meditation, yoga nidra, and sound healing, are designed to promote a complete practice for your overall physical and spiritual well-being. We offer the following classes that go beyond the poses:

Pranayama is the practice of ancient yogic breathing techniques to regulate your life force (prana), enhance vitality, mental clarity, and spiritual connection. A core element of yoga, meditation trains the mind in concentration, and self-awareness, leading to greater clarity and peace. In this class, you will be guided through a series of pranayama and meditation techniques to connect with yourself on a deeper level, promoting better mental concentration and balanced life force energy. This class is appropriate for all levels, no experience required.

PRANAYAMA + MEDITATION

Pranayama is the practice of ancient yogic breathing techniques to regulate your life force (prana), enhance vitality, mental clarity, and spiritual connection. A core element of yoga, meditation trains the mind in concentration, and self-awareness, leading to greater clarity and peace. In this class, you will be guided through a series of pranayama and meditation techniques based on the Dharma Yoga tradition to connect with yourself on a deeper level, promoting better mental concentration and balanced life force energy. This class is appropriate for all.

SOUND BATH + MEDITATION

This special class combines the mindful stillness of Yin Yoga with Yoga Nidra, a guided practice, often referred to as yogic sleep, that facilitates deep relaxation and subconscious healing. Yoga Nidra offers a unique yet challenging experience of moving awareness from gross to subtle while practicing non-attachment. Similar to a guided meditation practice, you'll witness the inner activities of the mind while being instructed to remain present and focused in the moment. This class is appropriate for all levels.
